Stacking the Shelves #36 - The Huge Super Awesome Haul

I got an absolutely spectacular haul this week! It was my birthday, yet no one gave me books except for one person :( But if you want to read about how I spent my birthday and the gifts I received, you can go here :D

If any of you did read my birthday post you will all know I went to the library on my birthday, that was lots of fun and I got some absolutely fantastic books there! And the postal truck came on my birthday and delivered two books to me, which was pretty ironic :p

All the physical books I've received this week
Library books! :D
Review books:
1. Etiquette and Espionage - Gail Carriger
I've seen this book in the blogosphere and it looks utterly fantastic! And the cover is gorgeous!
Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School, #1)

It's one thing to learn to curtsy properly. It's quite another to learn to curtsy and throw a knife at the same time. Welcome to Finishing School.
Sophronia Temminnick at 14 is a great trial more interested in dismantling clocks and climbing trees than proper manners -- and the family can only hope that company never sees her atrocious curtsy. Her poor mother, desperate for her daughter to become a proper lady, enrolls the lively tomboy in Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality.
But young ladies learn to finish...everything. Certainly, they learn the fine arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but they also learn to deal out death, diversion, and espionage -- in the politest possible ways, of course. Sophronia and her friends are in for a rousing first year's education.
2. Timeriders: Pirate Kings - Alex Scarrow
I still must read this series...haven't gotten around to it yet *facepalm*.
The Pirate Kings (TimeRiders, #7)
Liam O’Connor should have died at sea in 1912.Maddy Carter should have died on a plane in 2010.Sal Vikram should have died in a fire in 2026.
But all three have been given a second chance—to work for an agency that no one knows exists. Its purpose: to prevent time travel destroying history...
Relocated to Victorian London, the TimeRiders joy-ride back to 1666 to witness the Great Fire of London. In the ensuing chaos, Liam and their newest recruit, Rashim, find themselves trapped between the fire and the Thames. They escape onboard a river boat, only to be confronted by an unscrupulous captain with his heart set on treasures of the high seas ...
Back in 1888, Maddy and the rest of the team are frantically trying to track them down. But with limited resources at their new base, can Liam and Rashim survive the bloodthirsty and barbaric age of piracy long enough to be rescued?
3. Wonder - R.J. Palacio
When this arrived at my front door, I was squealing like an I don't know what, I have been wanting to read this book FOREVER and I am so happy to have received it for review.
Wonder
I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.
August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school—until now. He's about to start 5th grade at Beecher Prep, and if you've ever been the new kid then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie's just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, despite appearances?
R. J. Palacio has written a spare, warm, uplifting story that will have readers laughing one minute and wiping away tears the next. With wonderfully realistic family interactions (flawed, but loving), lively school scenes, and short chapters, Wonder is accessible to readers of all levels.

Gravity (The Taking, #1)
In the future, only one rule will matter:
Don’t. Ever. Peek.
Seventeen-year-old Ari Alexander just broke that rule and saw the last person she expected hovering above her bed — arrogant Jackson Locke, the most popular boy in her school. She expects instant execution or some kind of freak alien punishment, but instead, Jackson issues a challenge: help him, or everyone on Earth will die.
Ari knows she should report him, but everything about Jackson makes her question what she’s been taught about his kind. And against her instincts, she’s falling for him. But Ari isn’t just any girl, and Jackson wants more than her attention. She’s a military legacy who’s been trained by her father and exposed to war strategies and societal information no one can know — especially an alien spy, like Jackson. Giving Jackson the information he needs will betray her father and her country, but keeping silent will start a war.

The indigenous Spackle, thinking and acting as one, have mobilized to avenge their murdered people. Ruthless human leaders prepare to defend their factions at all costs, even as a convoy of new settlers approaches. And as the ceaseless Noise lays all thoughts bare, the projected will of the few threatens to overwhelm the desperate desire of the many. 7. Switched - Amanda Hocking
I have heard so much about this series, so when I saw it sitting on the library shelf I immediately added it to my library pile waiting to be checked out. I'm currently reading it at the moment and I'm enjoying it!
Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1)
Wendy Everly knew she was different the day her mother tried to kill her and accused her of having been switched at birth. Although certain she's not the monster her mother claimed she is, she does feel that she doesn't quite fit in. The new girl in High School, Wendy is bored and frustrated by her small-town life -- and then there's her secret, her mysterious ability -- she can influence people's decisions, without knowing how, or why ...When the intense and darkly handsome newcomer Finn suddenly turns up at her bedroom window one night, her world is turned upside down. He holds the key to her past, the answers to her strange powers and is the doorway to a place she never imagined could exist: Forening, the home of the Trylle. Among the Trylle she is not just different, but special. But what marks her out as chosen for greatness in this world also places her in grave danger. With everything around her changing, Finn is the only person she can trust. But dark forces are conspiring -- not only to separate them, but to see the downfall of everything that Wendy cares about...
8.Airhead: Runaway - Meg Cabot
I read the two books in the series last year and the year before and I have been meaning to finish reading the trilogy. So I checked it out and I am looking forward to reading it, as the other two books were fantastic!

And she's furious. Manipulative Brandon plans to use Em to discover a secret that will ensure his success, whilst Christopher is out for revenge, fuelled by his jealousy. With everyone around her playing a dangerous game, maybe Em should just keep on running...
9. I Capture the Castle - Dodie Smith
I'm not actually sure why I took this out...I enjoyed reading her novel 101 Dalmations and its a classic, and I've been wanting to read more classics, so I suppose that's why!
I Capture the Castle
I Capture the Castle tells the story of seventeen-year-old Cassandra and her family, who live in not-so-genteel poverty in a ramshackle old English castle. Here she strives, over a six-month period, first in a sixpenny book, then in a shilling book, and, finally, in a splendid two-guinea book, to hone her writing skills. And it is within these pages that she candidly chronicles her encounters with the estate's new, young, and handsome American landlords, the effects of her sister Rose's marital ambitions, her writer's-blocked father's anguished and ultimately renewed creativity, and her own hopeless, first descent into love.By the time she pens her final entry, she has "captured the castle"--and the heart of the reader--in one of literature's most enchanting entertainments.
10. Crossed - Ally Condie
I actually took Crossed out at another library a few months ago, but I never got around to reading it. So when I saw it sitting there I decided to read it! :D
Crossed (Matched, #2)
Cassia and Ky both narrate their quests crossing the ochre mountainous Carving to reach their love. She seeks the resistance, The Rising led by the Pilot, but does he? New teen friends red-haired Indie, fishing Vic, and chatty Eli, join them. Nothing is as expected on the edge of Society, where crosses and double crosses make the path more twisted than ever.

11. The Way of the Warrior - Chris Bradford
I actually have the first five books on my kindle, but I saw the first one there and I thought "Why not?". Because, although I love my kindle, I do prefer physical books, so  seeing as one of my kindle books was sitting there in physical format, I decided to take out the physical copy :D
