Teaser Tuesday #4

Sorry I haven't been posting Teaser Tuesday anymore, life has been quite busy but now I can resume to posting it. :)

Teaser Tuesday #4
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly book meme that is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
The Chronicles of Egg: Deadweather and Sunrise by Geoff Rodekey
Deadweather and Sunrise (The Chronicles of Egg, #1)A stunning middle-grade debut--full of heart, humor, and nonstop action
It's tough to be thirteen, especially when somebody's trying to kill you.
Not that Egg's life was ever easy, growing up on sweaty, pirate-infested Deadweather Island with no company except an incompetent tutor and a pair of unusually violent siblings who hate his guts.

But when Egg's father hustles their family off on a mysterious errand to fabulously wealthy Sunrise Island, then disappears with the siblings in a freak accident, Egg finds himself a long-term guest at the mansion of the glamorous Pembroke family and their beautiful, sharp-tongued daughter Millicent. Finally, life seems perfect.  Until someone tries to throw him off a cliff.

Suddenly, Egg's running for his life in a bewildering world of cutthroat pirates, villainous businessmen, and strange Native legends. The only people who can help him sort out the mystery of why he's been marked for death are Millicent and a one-handed, possibly deranged cabin boy.
Come along for the ride. You'll be glad you did.

Here are two teasers that really stood out for me:

"I can still remember  the first time I saw Percy and his books lurching up towards the house on top of one of the fruit wagons, the horses all lathered from the effort and Percy's massive belly jiggling at every bump. I practically fainted with joy - I'd never seen so many books, and I instantly knew the man who'd brought them to us was going to be the most important person in my life: a teacher, a friend and a saviour all rolled into one big, fat, sweaty package. It turned out I was dead wrong about Percy, except for the fat and sweaty part." Page 11.

"She closed the distance between us, reached out and took my hand in hers."Come on - tell me what to do to bring you back." The answer jumped into my head so quickly it almost slipped out before I could stop it. Marry me. There were a hundred reasons why thinking that was crazy, starting with the fact that we were only thirteen. But there it was. I couldn't unthink it.And right away, I realised what the ache in my chest must be." Page 77.

I am really really REALLY enjoying this book and I think everyone should read it. I wouldn't rate it middle-grade, I'd rate it Young Adult, it's a beautiful book.
